Wealthsimple raises up to $425 million in funding

Wealthsimple disclosed an equity financing round that could reach a total of CAD $425 million, a transaction that lifts the Canadian money-management platform’s valuation to CAD $13.8 billion, roughly equivalent to US $9.8 billion.
The structure of the deal comprises two distinct parts. A primary offering is set at CAD $300 million, while a secondary component may bring in as much as CAD $125 million.
Under the primary tranche, investors will acquire newly issued shares that increase the company’s capital base. The secondary portion permits current shareholders to sell a portion of their holdings, thereby providing liquidity to those owners.
According to the firm, the infusion of capital is intended to speed up the execution of its product roadmap, which includes expanding its business, everyday spending and chequing, trading and investment products.

The financing round follows a series of earlier fundraising activities that have underpinned Wealthsimple’s expansion across North America. Those prior rounds helped the firm scale its technology and broaden its market reach.
Investors participating in the round include a mix of venture capital firms, sovereign wealth funds, and strategic corporate partners, each bringing different expertise to the table.
