JCB International has launched a new card program for affluent customers in Indonesia, marking the first major step in a broader partnership between the payment brand and MUFG Bank across Southeast Asia. The Danamon JCB Treasure Card, issued together with PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, targets high-net-worth individuals and aims to strengthen ties between Indonesia and Japan through travel and spending benefits.

The offering represents JCB’s highest-tier product outside Japan, designed to meet rising demand among Indonesia’s wealthy segment for premium services. Japan remains a top destination for Indonesian travelers, with growing interest in luxury travel, dining, and shopping experiences. Danamon, one of Indonesia’s leading private banks, will distribute the card exclusively to its private-banking clients.

The card includes 5% cashback on eligible bill payments, preferential foreign-exchange rates for overseas transactions, and complimentary travel insurance. Holders also gain access to exclusive reservations at hard-to-book restaurants in Japan, privileges at popular retail outlets, and entry to airport lounges domestically and internationally. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to position Japan as a premier tourism destination for ASEAN travelers.

The launch follows a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2026 between MUFG and JCB, outlining a strategic partnership to combine MUFG’s financial network and investment base with JCB’s global payment infrastructure. While the immediate focus is on premium card offerings, the collaboration will later explore enhancements to cross-border payments and digital financial services in the region.

For affluent Indonesians, the card simplifies access to Japan’s high-end market while offering tangible rewards for travel and spending. The partnership reflects broader trends in ASEAN, where financial institutions increasingly partner with global brands to meet growing demand for premium services. Unlike standard travel cards, this product bundles exclusivity with financial perks, potentially shifting spending patterns toward Japan. This development is expected to attract considerable interest among the target demographic.

MUFG and JCB have signaled plans to expand the collaboration beyond cards, including efforts to promote Japanese brands and services across ASEAN. The initiative also supports Japan’s tourism strategy, leveraging Indonesia’s economic growth to drive regional revitalization through increased cross-border activity.

Additional benefits for cardholders include reservation assistance for rare dining experiences and access to a curated network of merchants in Japan. Its design and features reflect a focus on convenience and prestige, aligning with the preferences of Danamon’s private-banking clientele.
